My ISRO interview experience(Computer science)

Hello friends, i am writing my interview experience with ISRO i appeared for post of Scientist/Engineer held on 17-2-2016.

ISRO recruitment started with applying online through their website. Followed by initial shortlisting based on aggregate marks in BE/BTech which could appear in their written exam.

Written : Consists of 80 questions, (+3,-1).
Questions are similar to GATE questions, easier than GATE but tricky. One who has prepared for gate can easily crack this exam.
It's purely technical,no maths,no aptitude.
Cutof - 115/240

Interview :
(Duration 30 minutes)
About 12k - 13k candidates appear in written exam, this time they had 26 vaccancies for which they shortlisted around top 150 candidates.

A group of 9 scientists sitting around a round table was there for interview. It was kind of Rapid fire round so, i don't remember all questions.

Questions asked:
1. Asked BTech project - Doesn't matter what you are currently doing, job,Phd or Mtech, they were not interested in your recent project. They were just drilling you on Btech final year project. Revise it thoroughly.

2. Lots of questions from computer networks -
what is Multicast?
NAT? PAT?
...and many more

3. Operating system -
what is virtualisation? desktop, server virtualization
What happens when you switch on a computer..have to tell complete boot process.
what is Paging..what is virtual address..?

4. C/C++ -
what is the difference between scanf/fscanf/sscanf?
Asked me to explain whole concept of virtual functions..why are they used and many counter questions
what will happen if you pass an int in a function having a parameter short?

5. Maths
Asked some easy geometry questions like "there are 3 points and line joining these points.if the area confined by them is 0.what can you infer from it?", "given 2 lines in 3D space, how will you find their intersection point?"

6. If you are pursuing mtech or phd, they expect you to have knowledge about information security.
asked me
what is DDoS attack?
what is IPS(Intrusion prevension system)?
What is firewall..many counter questions on this

7. Finally they picked up a subject DSP(Digital signal processing) i read in Btech.
One of them said, you have studied DSP in Btech. i thought i heard it wrong, they cant ask DSP and asked again and she repeated "Digital signal processing". I was like "What!!Are you serious?"
I said yes..then she asked a few questions from it..though easy ones..
what is a digital filter? what are the types of filter?

8. Things i heard from fellow interviewees : questions about matrices ,rank of matrix, Vectors...etc

Recommended subjects to prepare - CN,OS,a bit of maths/geometry and information security, great advantage to know LINUX, C/C++ and Btech final year project is a must.

They ask your favorite subjects, prepare atleast 3 of above(CN and OS are must). No use of saying DS/Algo, they are not interested.

Good luck!! :)
